MeisterSinger: Creating Classic Watches with a Modern Touch

MeisterSinger watches are perfect examples of timepieces fused with both traditional style and present-day creativity. Heavily inspired by late 15th century mechanical clocks, the German brand has been manufacturing timepieces with only one hand instead of two. However, this feature is not only for show since it allows you to read time without being bothered by the perpetual ticking of the second hand, harkening back to the simpler past.

The German brand has perfected creating traditional timepieces that can be worn in the modern time. From the original MeisterSinger Classic to the elegant and sophisticated MeisterSinger New Vintage models.

MeisterSinger’s Watch Collections

MeisterSinger has four main models of men’s watches. All of these collections present the German brand’s signature one-hand timepieces along with other remarkable features.

Prices for the MeisterSinger Meisterstücke: The Brand’s Showpiece Watch

With a word that translates to “masterpiece”, the MeisterSinger Meisterstücke collection consists of sensational watches filled with eye-catching appearances. Men’s watches under this lineup come in two series: Circularis and Lunascope. And while both are worthy of being referred to as masterpieces, these categories have their own distinct features to offer.

MeisterSinger Meisterstücke Circularis watches are sophisticated 43mm timepieces with stainless steel cases and sapphire crystals. Available in hand-wound, automatic, and power reserve, they also have Superluminova markings that enable one to tell the time at night.

The Circularis Automatic watches also have a special feature, the MSA01. This highlight allows the hour hand of these self-winding watches to move smoothly. They also have a small date indicator located on the 6 o’clock position. These MeisterSinger automatic timepieces come in ivory, sunburst blue, and black.

Meanwhile, the Circularis Power Reserve watches are the first timepieces to include a power reserve display. This semi-circular indicator is located at the 9 o’clock position on the dial. There is also a small date indicator at 2 o’clock. Additionally, these timepieces have a MSH02 hand-wound movement which stores energy in the watch. This enables the watch to have a 120-hour timekeeping duration shown in the power reserve display. A classic example of the series is the 43mm MeisterSinger Meisterstücke Ref. CC9Z02, which costs $5,295 USD.

On the other hand, Lunascope watches have a more artistic appearance compared to the former. Serving as the German brand’s first astronomical single-hand models, these award-winning watches are a bit smaller at 40mm. And while they also have the same case and crystal as Circularis, MeisterSinger Meisterstücke Lunascope timepieces like the Meistersinger Meisterstücke Ref. LS908_SG03  has a moon phase feature. It is displayed on the upper half of the dial as a dark blue cut imitating a starry night sky. The Earth’s satellite also features according to the moon’s current phase. MeisterSinger Meisterstücke Lunascope watches come in opaline silver and sunburst blue colors.

So how much do these MeisterSinger watches cost? They range from $2,709 USD to $5,295 USD. The difference in cost is based on the timepiece model and materials used.

Prices for the MeisterSinger Classic: Ode to Its Original Design

As the name implies, the MeisterSinger Classic timepieces are the first watches made by the brand. And while the original appearance was kept, modifications were added to make this signature collection even better. Watches under this lineup come in three series: the N°01, N° 03, and Pangaea Date. All of these categories have their own trait which makes them different.

The N°01 watches, also referred to as MeisterSinger No 1, come in ivory or sunburst blue, and are available in 43mm or  40mm. The 43mm model is the origin of MeisterSinger’s success. It is the brand’s very first timepiece and managed to win honored awards such as Red Dot Design Award and the iF Design Award. Both 43mm and 40mm versions feature a sophisticated appearance powered by a Swiss-made Sellita hand-wound movement.

The original 43mm MeisterSinger Classic Ivory N°01 (Ref. AM3303) watch can be bought at the price of $1,499 USD. But if you’re going for another eye-catching timepiece from this collection, the MeisterSinger Classic Ref. AM902BL has a red-tipped hand and four red markings on the 3, 6, 9, and 12 indexes, which contrast beautifully against the black dial. This gorgeous piece costs around $1,749 USD.

Meanwhile, the N°03 timepieces are also available in 43mm and 40mm versions. The 43mm models come in four colors: ivory, sunburst blue, black line, and bronze line. On the other hand, the 40mm timepieces are available in opaline-silver, ivory, and sunburst blue.

What makes this collection different from the original lineup is its use of Swiss automatic movement. This technology enables the watch to absorb energy from the wearer’s activities. The energy is then transferred within the watch’s mechanics, giving it a total power reserve duration of 38 hours. Because of its unique capability and design, MeisterSinger Classic N°03 has received the prestigious GOOD Design Award. It was also nominated for the German Design Award. And as for the price, a brand new 43mm MeisterSinger N°03 Classic Ivory (Ref. AM903) costs $1,995 USD.

Lastly, the Pangaea Date is a revision of the German brand’s Pangaea models so it would fit the whole collection. The 40mm timepieces under this collection are fit to look like early pocket watches. They also have a date indicator located on the 6 o’clock position. Available in blue and black, the MeisterSinger Classic Pangaea Date timepieces are also powered with Swiss automatic movement.

Prices for the MeisterSinger Classic Plus: Original with a Twist

This collection showcases the German brand’s classic design of timepieces. However, as the name implies, MeisterSinger Classic Plus models have other features added to them. And every single model’s unique design has won prestigious awards like the Red Dot Design Award and the German Design Award. Just like the MeisterSinger Classic collection, this lineup also has three series: Astroscope, Perigraph, and Pangaea Day Date. Each of these three models offer unique, eye-catching features.

The Astroscope series has a 40mm diameter and comes in black/old radium and black/blue color combinations. There is also a limited-edition model which has a black/orange hue. The Swiss-powered timepieces under this series feature the days of the week along with their respective classical symbols. Additionally, the days of the week and their symbols are not arranged linearly. Instead, they go back and forth to imitate a 12-year cycle constellation of the northern hemisphere night sky. So how much is a watch under this series? Well, a brand new MeisterSinger Classic Plus Astroscope Ref. AS902B retails at $2,295 USD.

On the other hand, the Perigraph series features an open, rotating date disc on the dial. All the timepieces in this series have a 43mm diameter and come in a variety of colors and combinations. These hues include ivory, steel blue/sand, steel blue/black, black, and bronze. Inspired from early analog instruments, the date is shown on the open date disk  at the 12 o’clock position. This award-winning series is also powered by the Swiss automatic movement displayed at the back of the watch. A perfect example under this series is the MeisterSinger Classic Plus Perigraph Ref. AM10Z17B. This 43mm model costs $1,579 USD and showcases the German brand’s unique design for this series.

Lastly, the 40mm Pangaea Day Date series features two rotating discs. One disc indicates the current date just like the Perigraph series. And just like the Astroscope series, the other disc tells the current day. However, the days are arranged in a linear fashion. These discs, placed on the center of the dial, automatically rotate at midnight to form the current date below the 12 o’clock position. This series comes in colors and combinations such as ivory, sunburst steel blue/black, sunburst steel blue/sand gray, and sunburst blue. And if you’re curious for the price, a brand new MeisterSinger Classic Plus Pangaea Day Date Ref. PDD9Z17S costs $2,395. This 40mm timepiece features MeisterSinger’s modern and creative take on a single-hand watch.

Prices for the MeisterSinger New Vintage: Old School with a Contemporary Vibe

What do you get when you give vintage watches a new look? That’s right. The  MeisterSinger New Vintage collection features modern timepieces with an old-time appearance. This collection comes in six series: Metris, Neo, Neo Plus, Neo Pointer Date, Neo Plus Pointer Date, and Vintago.

If you want a robust watch that can be worn for both water activities and casual gatherings, then the Metris series is a good option. This series has 38mm timepieces available in various colors. Just like the other timepieces from MeisterSinger, there is a date indicator located on the 6 o’clock position. This is then complimented with a needle-shaped hour hand for accurate timekeeping. And with a water resistance of 200m, Metris timepieces can be brought even underwater. A 38mm MeisterSinger New Vintage Ref. ME908 retails at around $1,429 USD.

On the other hand, the 36mm Neo series has a vintage appearance with modern touch. Its overall design is inspired from 1950s timepieces. Meanwhile, the narrow bezel and flat crystal are based on modern watch designs. It also has a date indicator on the dial. This design has then led to other series with added touches. The Neo Plus series, for example, has a bigger size at 40mm. However, it also has the same bezel and crystal format at the original Neo series. Neo is available in ivory and sunburst blue colors. On the other hand, Neo Plus has more hue options including sunburst steel blue and opaline/silver. The bigger 40mm MeisterSinger New Vintage Ref. NE408 costs $1,499 USD.

Another series based on Neo’s design is the 36mm Neo Pointer Date. It sports a narrow bezel and flat crystal along with a rotating disc dial. Because of these features, the series looks like the Neo lineup fused with other MeisterSinger models such as Perigraph and Pangaea Day Date. Meanwhile, the Neo Pointer Date Plus is a larger version of this series at 40mm. Both of these series are available in opaline silver and sunburst steel blue colors. A wonderful timepiece in this series is the 36mm MeisterSinger New Vintage Ref. NED917, which costs $1,139 USD.

And lastly, as the name implies, the Vintago series has an appearance that is reminiscent of 1960s timepieces. This is done possible due to the flat crystal on the timepiece. Available in opaline silver, blue, and ivory, this 38mm series also has a date display near the 3 o’clock position. The dial is also multi-levelled instead of flat, therefore giving the watch its unique appearance. And because of its crafty design, the Vintago series has won the iF Design Award. A brand new MeisterSinger New Vintage Ref. VT908 has a price of $1,895 USD.

History of MeisterSinger Watches

Headquartered in Münster, Germany, MeisterSinger was established in 2001 by self-taught watchmaker Manfred Brassler. Formerly a jeweler in Munich, Brassler used his knowledge and experience to create a unique brand of mechanical timepieces.

Before establishing the brand, Brassler had already planned to create his own unique label of watches. He noticed that watch manufacturers tend to use the same designs for timepieces. This then causes problems and makes it challenging for the watchmakers to produce unique products.

And to solve this problem, Brassler, with his expertise in jewelry and watchmaking, created timepieces that don’t look like any other watches. He wanted to make watches that look peerless so they could stand out from any other brands. Brassler then designed his creations to look like devices that strictly measure time, and thus MeisterSinger was established.

MeisterSinger's Milestones and Innovations

Aside from having multiple awards due to the creative and unique appearances of their timepieces, MeisterSinger is also a trailblazer in watchmaking. The Circularis Power Reserve series under the MeisterSinger Meisterstücke collection, in particular, has a ground-breaking feat. It is the first series of timepieces to include a power reserve that can last for 5 days. This allows the watch to indicate the time for a long duration before being rewound.

Another milestone for the German brand is its creation of the Lunascope series. It became the basis of other astrological single hand timepiece series. This allowed MeisterSinger to create eye-catching watch series such as the Astroscope under the MeisterSinger Classic Plus collection.

MeisterSinger's Single-Hand Watches

Inspired from older watches which only use one hand such as sundials and hourglasses, MeisterSinger showcases single-handed timepieces to accurately indicate time. But some people are probably not familiar with how to tell the time using a one-handed watch. And that raises a question: how exactly do you know what time it is using this watch?

To answer the question, MeisterSinger watches all have four kinds of strokes on the dial. The longest strokes indicate the hours, just like other timepieces. In the middle of the hour marks is a medium-length line which serves as the 30 minute mark. Between the hour mark and 30 minute mark are 5 minute and 15 minute marks, the latter being a bit longer. Because of the single-hand mechanic and different dial design, time seems to be a bit slower when using MeisterSinger watches.

Reasons to Buy a MeisterSinger Watch

With its award-winning series of timepieces, it’s not surprising that MeisterSinger is a well-acclaimed brand. Aside from the numerous honors, the timepieces are unique themselves. Because of their dial design and single hand mechanic, it’s hard to compare MeisterSinger watches with other timepiece brands. Timepieces in some series such as Lunascope, Astroscope, Perigraph, and Pangaea Day Date take this even further by adding more features and modifications.

Additionally, aside from having a distinct style, MeisterSinger watches are very durable. Most of them have a water resistance of 50m. The Metris series under the MeisterSinger New Vintage collection even has a 200m water resistance. And in terms of duration, the aforementioned Circularis Power Reserve has a 5-day power reserve. This just shows that the watches of this German brand don’t just offer a unique, antique appearance. They can also last for a long time.

MeisterSinger Watches: Vintage Flair with Modern Sensibilities

With its unique design inspired from early clocks, watch enthusiasts and collectors may find owning an award-winning MeisterSinger timepiece to be fulfilling. Its unique, classic appearance, along with other added features, lets people appreciate traditional watch designs in modern times.
