New TAG Heuer Link Watches

TAG Heuer Link: Class Personified

Out of the six collections of TAG Heuer, the Link Collection is perhaps most refined, sleek, and classic.  It was designed by Eddy Schopfer, who has gone on to create more watches for TAG Heuer and other brands such as Ebel

The words that you can correlate with this TAG Heuer collection are, without a doubt: motion, purity, curve, and precision. TAG Heuer Link’s signature fine-brushed S-shaped bracelet effortlessly moves with the curves of your wrist for a comfortable fit, so it feels as if it is gliding on top of your skin. The watch itself has a clean and polished look with either bright luminescent hands and indices or exquisite diamond-set bezels and indices. Some models are made with 5N rose gold while others come in stainless steel, gold or silver. The TAG Heuer Link also provides wearers with a variety of dials: these include radial-patterned dials, mother-of-pearl dials and even dials with classic sunburst designs.

Another offering from the TAG Heuer Link is its tachymeter watches. These are watches that feature a scale which can measure speed using their bezels or on the edge of the dials. This interesting complication adds a subtle sportiness and robustness to the ever-elegant Link watches.

How much does a TAG Heuer Link cost?

Calibre 5, 6, 7

The TAG Heuer Link Caliber 5 is known in the collection as the one with the three-hands. It has an automatic movement with functions including measuring hours, minutes, seconds, and a date counter. Add to that a substantial 38-hour power reserve and 100m water resistance, and you get a sturdy, solid dress watch you can easily use for your everyday activities. The Caliber 5 features cases that measure 41mm and 42mm in diameter, which is fairly standard for an elegant sports watch.

A 41mm watch like Link Caliber 5 Ref. WBC2110.BA0603 has a useful date display feature positioned at 3 o’clock on a classic black sunburst dial. Its hands and indices are coated with luminescent material so they can be more easily read in the dark. On the other hand, the 42mm Link Caliber 5 Ref. WAT2010.BA0951 is a tad larger, and has a day and date display located at 6 o’clock. The vertical lines on its black dial adds a stylish touch to its face. With regards to its bezel, it features a 12-hour scale. Just like the 41mm Link Caliber 5, it also has luminous hands and indices. A brand new Calibre 5 will cost you around $3,100 USD to $2,950 USD. If you love glam, look out for Link Caliber 5 Ref. WBC2113.BA0603. This lavish timepiece comes with 54 diamonds set all around its matching silver bezel. Unfortunately, The Link Caliber 5 Ref. WBC2113.BA0603 has been discontinued but you can get it from resellers for about $3,795 USD. In mint-condition, this watch can cost up to $6,350 USD.

Another automatic watch to look out for in this collection is the TAG Heuer Link Caliber 6. It is actually quite similar to Caliber 5. It has the same vertical lines on the dial, a date display at 6 o’clock, and a 12-hour scale on its bezel. The true difference can be seen in the 40mm Caliber 6 watches, which feature a small seconds counter along with the date display, omitting the day display. This timepiece can cost from $1,400 USD to $3,635 USD.

To all the globetrotters, make sure to check out TAG Heuer Link Calibre 7 GMT. It is most useful to individuals who love to travel because it enables you to set two time zones in one timepiece. The Link Caliber 7 GMT features a 24-hour scale that circles the central hands. On top of the watch’s regular hands set, it also has another hour hand with a red tip that is used to indicate the 24-hour scale. In addition, it also has a handy date display located at 6 o’clock. The 42mm Link Caliber 7 GMT watches are priced at $3,635 USD, which is considered mid-range for this collection.

Calibre 16, 17, and 18

Leaning more into its sporty DNA, the Link Caliber 16 is an automatic chronograph watch. The Tag Heuer Link Caliber 16 Ref. CAT2011.BA0952 features three subdials that are placed on the left side of the dial, leaving a huge space for the date window and the iconic TAG Heuer Link logo at 3 o’clock. This division actually adds an aesthetically pleasing, even look to its dial. The 12-hour counter is positioned at 6 o’clock, the small 60-second counter is at 9 o’clock, and the 30-minute counter at 12 o'clock. For added glow in the dark, the hands of the watches are applied with a luminescent coating. What sets this timekeeper apart from the other chronograph watches in this collection is that it also includes a tachymeter that can measure speed. This meter can conveniently be found on the watch's bezel. This 43mm timepiece retails at $4,650 USD.

If you do not want all your subdials concentrated on the left of the watch, the Link Caliber 17 offers a more classic chronograph look. Take a look at the $4,500 USD TAG Heuer Link Caliber Ref. CBC2112.BA0603. On this watch, you can find the small seconds counter at 3 o’clock, the 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock and the 30-minute counter at 9 o’clock. Other than that, it features a date display window located between 4 and 5 o’clock. Unlike the Caliber 16 which only has luminescence on the hands, the 41mm Caliber 17 watches have White Super-LumiNova® coated on both the hands and indices. The silver hands and indices of the dials and subdials also serve to set up a gorgeous contrast with the royal blue hue of this watch’s dial.

If you’re looking for a more symmetrical chronograph watch, the TAG Heuer Link Caliber 18 Ref. CAT2110.BA0959 can give you just that. The 40mm watches in this line only have two subdials. The one positioned at 3 o’clock is the seconds counter and the other one at 9 o’clock is the minute counter. The evenly-designed and uncluttered dial makes for an especially elegant chronograph timepiece. Another thing to take note is that the date aperture of this watch is located at 6 o’clock – which differs from the Caliber 16 and Caliber 17. You can get this timekeeper for just $4,100 USD.

WBC1318.BA0600, it has a date feature at 3 o’clock. What is different about this watch is that it has 48 sparkling diamonds (0.676 CT) on its bezel, making it especially lavish. TAG Heuer Link's History and Design Details

Released in 1987, the TAG Heuer Link collection was originally named S/EL, which stands for Sports and Elegance. The first model featured had an eccentric look due to the curves of its silhouette and alternating silver and gold details. Perhaps the most outstanding detail about the original TAG Heuer Link was its famous S-shaped bracelet, designed by Eddy Schopfer, which has become the iconic trademark of the Link Collection today.

In 1991, Formula One legend and World Champion, Ayrton Senna, became the brand ambassador of the collection. TAG Heuer’s collaboration with this first-class athlete resulted in the development of five watches, most of which were categorized as S/EL timepieces. In fact, Senna herself personally used a TAG Heuer Link watch, a gold Quartz Analog/Digital TAG Heuer S/EL Chronograph with a brown leather strap. Come 1999, and S/EL was renamed to the collection that we now know as the “Link”. This name was cleverly derived from the characteristic double S links featured in all TAG Heuer Link bracelets.

For the collection’s 20th anniversary, in 2007, TAG Heuer paid tribute to the Link collection by releasing a TAG Heuer Link Calibre S Chronograph. It is a watch that has chronograph, date, and tachymeter features. In addition, its electro-mechanical movement is battery-powered.

In 2017, the TAG Heuer Link ladies collection was introduced, with cushioned-shaped bezels, lovely diamond-set bezels, diamond indices, and fully integrated bracelets. The following year, TAG Heuer launched the men's range under the Link collection.
