SevenFriday T-Series Watches: Steampunk Goes Modern

Seven Friday T-Series watches are 12.95mm-thin “squircle” or rounded square watches with central mechanisms that resemble gears or spokes. While watch parts in this style are often associated with machines or engines of the industrial revolution, the dial configuration of the T-Series seems to be from the future. Put simply, the design is steampunk but with a modern twist.

What makes the watches industrial yet contemporary? The answer is apparent when one looks at the timepieces’ dials, which SevenFriday refers to as interfaces and their housing. The interfaces feature cutout discs that integrate the hour and minute hands and offer a glimpse of the calibers beneath. The mechanisms look futuristic because of the gradients on the skeletonized or semi-transparent dials they are on and the blueprint-style inscriptions that highlight the important components. Also, the finishes of the cases framing the interface are made sleek through polishing, brushing, and sandblasting.

In some models, the lenses that protect the interfaces look modern as well because of their sunglass tint. The lenses are made of the same toughened glass used in SevenFriday’s series of shades that go well with the timepieces.

Furthermore, there are Near Field Communication (NFC) chips embedded in the watches’ backs. The components are scanned via the official SevenFriday Android or iOS app for easy watch registration and authentication, truly making the timepieces next-generation products.

How much is a SevenFriday T-Series watch?

Nowadays, avant-garde timepieces from many brands start at $5,000 USD and can reach five-digit price figures. This is not the case for SevenFriday, though. If you’re looking for a watch that breaks the norms but not the bank, then you would find the SevenFriday T-Series a great choice. All five variations of the timepiece, priced less than $1,200 USD, are among the most affordable eccentric watches you will find on the global market.

Prices for the SevenFriday T-Series T1/01 Watches

The SevenFriday T1/01 Cocorico is a $1,099 USD limited-edition watch with just 450 pieces manufactured. What makes this timepiece special is the stamping on the blue gradient dial and case back. The design features a blue, white, and red rouge-style lined rooster with steampunk eyewear. Also noteworthy is the detailing on the underside of the strap. The pattern is the animal’s footprints.

The watch was designed to reflect the French Art de Vivre or Art of Living. Therefore, it is no wonder that the gallic rooster is its highlight. The animal, although not considered an official icon of France, is often associated with the country. One of the reasons behind this is the fact that the rooster was used as a symbol of resistance by French patriots during World War I.

The timepiece, consistent with SevenFriday’s other series, is also a nod to the culture promoted by the brand. SevenFriday is inspired by the Friday mood or outgoing and carefree lifestyle, so the T1/01 reflects that with a denim strap that complements dress-down Friday fashion.

Prices for the SevenFriday T-Series T3/02 Watches

The SevenFriday T3/02 Runway 07 ($1,190 USD) is another limited-edition timepiece with only 250 pieces released globally. This watch sports an airport motif that is reflected by the yellow and black hands and airport signage graphic designs on the skeletonized dial. There are also yellow and white numeral indexes that look like digital displays of an aircraft gauge. The sunglasses lens and leather strap, which are both dark, make the detailing stand out.

The design also brings out the Friday mood — SevenFriday core brand goal. The airport theme inspires everyone to travel or go on an overseas vacation, which is a great activity to cap off the workweek.

Prices for the SevenFriday T-Series T3/01 Watches

Coming in at $679 USD, the SevenFriday T3/01 has the same non-reflective lens as the brand’s Icon Tiny 4 sunglasses. The blue gradient of the hardened K1 mineral glass adds depth to the timepiece, designed to immerse you into the dial and internal mechanism.

Beneath the tinted lens and the semi-transparent dial is the TMI caliber NH70, a reliable movement from Seiko that provides 40 hours of power per automatic winding cycle. The Japan-made caliber is the mechanism that replaced the Miyota movement that the older SevenFriday series use. In the T3/01 watch, the movement’s impressive components are emphasized through blueprint markings in red, white, and black that command your attention.

The leather strap, conversely, matches the blue motif of the lens and dial. Furthermore, it features tiny round cutouts that make the timepiece look rugged.

Like the SevenFriday T1/01 Cocorico, the T3/01 has a style that matches casual Friday clothing, such as denim jackets and jeans.

Prices for the SevenFriday T2/01 Watches

The SevenFriday T2/01 ($779 USD) stands out for its unconventional use of the color green. The timepiece’s semi-transparent dial is green and covered by a non-reflective sunglass lens tinted with a gradient of the same color. The hardened K1 mineral glass is like that of SevenFriday’s Icon Tiny 3 shades that also come in green.

The central disc, hands, and blueprint markings are in white, which is a good accent color. The hue also makes the time easy to read during the day and at night. As regards the watch’s strap, it follows the peculiar color motif and is made of tone-on-tone stitched canvas fabric instead of the usual leather.

Prices for the SevenFriday T2/02 Watches

The SevenFriday T2/02 is a brown watch with a metallic accent. Due to the color, the timepiece looks more steampunk compared to the other models covered so far.

The timepiece’s case is made of dark gunmetal lined with rose gold paint. It houses the semi-transparent brown gradient dial that has a bronze-tone ring and white and beige blueprint-like markings. The leather strap it is connected to is also in a brown hue.

The $849 USD SevenFriday T2/02 may be the priciest of all the regular models from the collection but it is the best T-Series watch to get for fans of SevenFriday’s signature industrial design.

The SevenFriday T-Series’ Origin: SevenFriday’s Avant-Garde Take on Industrial Design

The T-Series is among SevenFriday’s latest collection of watches built for men. The regular versions, T3/01 Gradient Blue, T2/01 Gradient Blue, and T2/02 Gradient Brown were launched in 2019, while the T1/01 Cocorico and T3/02 Runway 07 limited editions were unveiled in 2020.

The timepieces were born from the watchmaker’s avant-garde design ideas that no other Swiss manufacturer would have come up with. It is only SevenFriday who thought that watches would look good with sunglass lenses and blueprint-style detailing. Indeed, the former added depth to thewatches’ faces while the latter emphasized the technicality of the internal mechanisms.

The success of SevenFriday’s T1, T2, and T3 watches prove that eccentricity is “in” in the modern age of timepieces. Furthermore, it shows that the trend is likely to stay in the next few years.

5 Reasons to Buy a SevenFriday T-Series Watch

A SevenFriday T-Series timepiece is not mainstream like releases from the biggest Swiss brands. Moreover, the style might not match everyone’s fashion preferences. Given that, how come it gets so much love from its niche market? There are many reasons why enthusiasts buy the watch and here are the best five:

1. The Timepiece Defies Style Conventions

From the shape of the case to the composition of its face, a SevenFriday T-Series watch goes against the flow with originality. It might defy style conventions but is a stylish watch to have whether for daily use or as part of a modern collection. The timepiece is coveted by people who do not like to wear the accessories everyone is flaunting and prefer to stand out in the crowd instead. Proof of its attractiveness is the fact that its most eccentric versions sell out fast on the SevenFriday website and online marketplaces.

2. The Timepiece Reflects the Friday Mood

Style is an attitude, as a popular saying goes. This is also true of a SevenFriday T-Series watch. The timepiece’s designs reflect the laid-back mood that the last day of the work week brings. Wearers are reminded that no matter how busy or stressful the first five days are, there is always a breather to look forward to toward the end of each week.

3. The Watch is Budget-Friendly

A SevenFriday T-Series timepiece sets buyers back for just $1,200 USD or less. For this affordable price, anyone can own a timepiece that is very fashionable and functional. In fact, the watches are conversation-starters due to their unusual appearance and work efficiently because of their powerful automatic movement. With those features, the timepiece is a steal for buyers even if it does not come from a mainstream brand.

4. The Timepiece is Easy to Authenticate

Counterfeits have been rampant ever since the era of the first timepieces and are hard to identify for watchmakers and buyers. The good news is that watch authentication is becoming convenient nowadays through technology. The SevenFriday T-Series is a perfect example of a timepiece that is easy to validate because it has an NFC chip built-in. The owner just needs to do a few taps on the official mobile app to scan the chip and verify whether the watch is genuine.

5. The Watch Can Be Used Everyday

A SevenFriday T-Series timepiece is a good day-to-day watch. The accessory is best paired with casual outfits for it strikes a balance between being sleek and rugged. Variants that are meant to go well with SevenFriday’s sunglass collection are the better choices for everyday use. They are more basic compared to the two limited editions that tout striking details or motifs.

SevenFriday T-Series Watches: Quirky But Wearable

The SevenFriday T-Series may be odd due to its modernized steampunk look that challenges the norms of watch design. Being odd does not mean it is not wearable. Every SevenFriday T-Series model, be it a regular or limited edition, is great to use as an everyday watch. That is because the style is casual, and the movement is exceptional.
