Rado Sintra Watches: Ceramic Reimagined

Rado operates on the philosophy of “If we can imagine it, we can make it”. This has spurred the brand to introduce watches that may gleam differently because of their materials and design. Such is the case for the Rado Sintra, which was based on the 1990 Rado Ceramica collection.

By using ceramic and titanium in its watches, the Rado Sintra opens doors for more possibilities. These materials make for easy-to-wear watches that appear heavy but are actually lightweight. These watches are also scratch-resistant, granting them an extra layer of durability. The Rado Sintra collection has come out with different models, ranging from the simple quartz and automatic to the diamond-encrusted Jubile editions.

How much does a Rado Sintra watch cost?

Prices for the Rado Sintra Quartz Models

One of the first Rado Sintra watches is the Sintra Quartz. Made with titanium-based ceramic and metal, these watches pack power and aesthetics into one package. The Sintra Quartz’s ‘cermet’ properties make for a timepiece that looks metal-heavy but is actually lightweight. The integration of such materials ultimately changed the Rado brand and collection.

Popular quartz pieces include the Rado Sintra DO-R13725702 and the Rado Sintra R13334732. The former boasts the Sintra’s classic case and bracelet but in lush black. It also has luminescent hands that gleam silver, which complements its diamond studs well.

Beyond these daubs of metallic color, the DO-R13725702 also has a fixed ceramic black bezel. Its other features include a date window, scratch-resistant properties, and a 30mm diameter. This watch is relatively small for a men’s watch, but like its design, also packs a punch.

The black-dialed men’s Rado Sintra Quartz watch (DO-R13725702) has a water resistance of 30m and a self-winding mechanical movement. It also sports the classic aesthetic of a Sintra watch: square-cased, sleek, and elegant. This piece costs around $2,000 USD.

The R13334732 (Sintra Quartz with a Diamond Black Dial), conversely, has a platinum-toned case and bracelet. Unlike the DO-R13725702, it uses platinum even with its bezel and hands, making for a shinier effect.

Like the DO-R13725702, the R13334732 also has diamond studs on its hour markers, a square-shaped case, and a water resistance of 30m. This timepiece costs around $1,500 USD.

Prices for the Rado Sintra Automatic Watches

Following the Sintra Quartz is the Rado Sintra Automatic, which has similar features but different physical properties. The simple-styled Rado Sintra Automatic R13598152, for one, comes with a platinum-hued case, bracelet, and hands. This stands in contrast with its lush black dial, which is garnished with luminescent hands and hour markers.

The R13598152 has standard Sintra Automatic physical properties. It uses a Rado Calibre 629 and has a water resistance of 30m. This timepiece can also run for 42 hours on power reserve, while encased in a 34mm scratch-resistant sapphire crystal case. A standard Sintra Automatic costs $2,900 USD.

Another men’s Rado Sintra watch is the Rado Sintra Jubile Men’s Automatic Watch (R13663702). While this piece falls under the ‘Jubile’ collection, its features also make it one of the collection’s best automatic watches.

Meanwhile, the Rado Sintra Automatic R13663702 watch boasts a 35mm tonneau-shaped case, along with a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. It makes for an effective contemporary watch because of its avant-garde style and high-performance features.

Its features include a 629 caliber, 21 jewels, and a Swiss-certified chronometer. Like all the other Sintra pieces, it has a ceramic bezel and bracelet. Its clasp, however, is made out of high-quality titanium. This timepiece also has white diamond hour markers, gold-tone hands, and a polished finish. For a higher-end Sintra Automatic piece like the R13663702, prices fall around $4,000 USD.

Prices for the Rado Sintra Jubile and Diamonds Series

As mentioned earlier, Rado Sintra also has collections beyond their standard Quartz and Automatic watches. This includes the highly-coveted Jubile and Diamond collections.

The Rado Sintra Jubile Ceramic (R13876712) watch has the Sintra’s standard Ceramos bracelet. This watch is a mix of the best-quality ceramic and metal, making it light yet stylish. As for its physical properties, the R13876712 has a Swiss quartz movement and 30m water resistance. This watch carries a distinctly sheen, starkly contrasting its dark black dial and silver monochrome bracelet. Even with its relatively small watch face, the R13876712 still has luminescent hands and markers that command attention.

This piece’s dial is protected by a scratch-resistant crystal, which is also standard procedure for any Rado Sintra watch. The Rado Sintra R13780152 retails for around $2,200 USD.

The Rado Sintra R13721702 is one of the collection’s most feminine timepieces, designed for the modern, classy lady in mind. It is the embodiment of “diamonds are a girl’s best friend”. Starting its features off are a Ceramos case, bracelet, and bezel. It also has a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal that keeps the bracelet protected and luxurious.

Aptly-sized, the R13721702 also has a 39mm diameter case and 9mm case thickness. While it has a simple style, it boasts unique elegance with its gleaming white diamonds. Dialwise, this watch can come with a white or black dial.

This watch’s pièce de résistance, the diamonds, form the watch’s indexes and give the Jubile Diamond’s signature style. This watch is water resistant for 30m as well. The R13721702 costs around $1,700 USD.

Is Rado Sintra a good investment?

Due to its materials and rich history, a Rado Sintra watch makes for a sound investment. The watches under this collection use a special ‘cermet’ material that makes them highly durable.

With a combination of high-tech materials, Rado Sintra watches are long-lasting avant-garde timepieces. These watches are uniquely styled and are light to wear on the wrist. These properties make it possible for Rado Sintra watches to be passed from one generation to another. Comfortable, powerful, and stylish, you’ll get your money’s worth with the Rado Sintra.

History Behind the Rado Sintra Collection

Tracing its roots back to Lengnau, Switzerland, Rado has a long history of creating long-lasting watches. Previously known as “Schlup & Co.”, the company began its horological journey in 1917.

Twenty years after this affair, its founders began the RadoWatch Co. Ltd. From then on, the Rado brand climbed its way to success. It offered high-performing durable watches at a fair price point, which still drives its key principles today.

What makes Rado special is its use of sapphire glass, tungsten, and ceramic in its timepieces. Due to this, Rado watches can also be molded into unique shapes and sizes.

One of the most popular and historic watches under the Rado collection is the Rado Integral. This preceded the Rado Sintra, but was the blueprint for Rado’s successive collections. Released in 1986, the Integral was the first Rado wristwatch to use scratch-proof sapphire crystal.

From then on, Rado watches used only the best materials, including ones that can deflect sunlight (1987 Rado Coupole). Rado kept this ball rolling until the 1990s and explored materials the world was yet to know more of.

The Rado Sintra was born in 1993. Using high-tech ceramic on watches was quite unheard of until the Sintra collection emerged. Since its debut, however, Rado has doubled down on high-tech ceramic materials. There have been collections like the Sintra Jubilee, which intertwines ceramic with finely-cut diamonds.

Aesthetically, the Rado Sintra looks sleek and avant-garde. Unlike most watches, it has a rectangular case that makes them stand out. As a brand, Rado builds on its own innovations. It does not stray away from what it has previously established. This was also the case for the Rado Sintra, which borrows materials and inspiration from the Rado Ceramica

Released three years before the Sintra, it was the Rado Ceramica that tested the waters for ceramic timepieces. Its watches were made out of sapphire crystal and high-tech ceramic.

The Rado Sintra took this innovation a step further by combining titanium-based ceramic with metal. Called ‘cermet’, this style design became a household Rado classic. By 1998, Rado took the Sintra brand even further, using a combination of plasma and high-tech ceramic. This created unique hues and a metallic glow that has never been seen by the world before.

Since then, the Rado Sintra collection has become a hub of innovation. There is a specific Rado Sintra lens, combining old styles with new technology. This has tied itself to Rado’s brand image, taking it to world-renowned events such as the Australian Open and the Mubadala World Tennis Championship.
