New Panerai Luminor Due Watches

Panerai Luminor Due: A Tribute to the 1950’s Panerai Luminor

Back in the 1860s, Panerai was known for being a supplier of high-precision instruments and watches to the Italian Royal Navy, creating several prototypes to meet the navy’s requirements. This eventually gave birth to the Panerai Luminor collection that provides a safer and more luminous watch carrying safer self-luminescent materials and a tritium-based substance (a hydrogen isotope), that are still present and greatly improved in today’s collection of Luminor watches. One of which is the Panerai Luminor Due, paying tribute to the classic 1950 Luminor watch but carrying a new and slimmer casing and a wide variety of watch selections including GMT Power Reserve models.

While these watches are highly inspired by the first timepieces created for the Italian Navy, the Panerai Luminor Due is more of a dress watch rather than a diving watch considering that it boasts only 30m water resistance unlike the 100 m water resistance of the usual Panerai diving watch. While it may not be at par with its diving roots, Panerai’s Luminor Due has a fair share of things to boast starting with its 1950s casing that was reduced to 40% or 10.7mm which makes these models 36% lighter than their predecessor. Underneath these thin cases houses either a manual or automatic movement, with the latter being the thinnest in-house automatic movement by Panerai.

Prices for the Panerai Luminor Due 3 Days Acciaio Series

The Panerai Luminor Due 3 Days Acciaio Ref. PAM00676 is one of the first models introduced under the Luminor Due collection released in 2016. Its 10.5 mm super thin case holds the in-house P.1000 caliber, a hand-wound mechanical movement that can hold up to 3 days of power reserve. This movement is fitted under a slim case with a selection of AISI 316L polished steel, a hypoallergenic, and highly resistant metal to corrosion. Going over to its dial, the stainless steel model is accented with a sun-brushed black sandwich dial displaying luminous Arabic numerals, hour markers, and small seconds at 9 o'clock while its back displays a see-through sapphire crystal. This 40mm Panerai watch is priced at $7,900 USD.

Prices for the Panerai Luminor Due 3 Days Oro Rosso Models

The Panerai Luminor Due 3 Days Oro Rosso series has two of the most eye-catching models under their wing—the PAM00677 and the PAM00741. Apart from its signature 10.5 mm thin case, both models feature a red gold case, a Panerai gold tech that boasts a percentage of copper that brings this red hue to the gold. On top of its elegant case is an anthracite sun-brushed and signature sandwich dial for the Panerai Luminor Due 3 Days Oro Rosso PAM00677 and the first-ever ivory dial with blue accents for the Panerai Luminor Due 3 Days Oro Rosso PAM00741, a different dial design from the usual Panerai. Both models tick the in-house P.1000/10 caliber that is conveniently seen from its sapphire crystal display at the back of the case and finished off with a fitting blue alligator strap. The unique color palette of both models has given these watches a unique look among the rest, not to mention that they sit just right on your wrist all thanks to their thin and light build. Both models are priced at $21,900 USD.

Prices for Panerai Luminor Due GMT Watches

The Panerai Luminor Due GMT PAM00964 is a 45mm watch in brushed titanium, housing the P.4002 caliber that offers not only 72 hours of power reserve but also a power reserve indicator. Unlike the previous models, the GMT watches display three functions in their dials. Apart from the signature small seconds at 9 o'clock, you’ll find a date display at 3 o'clock and the power reserve indicator at 5 o'clock. All of these are displayed in a blue sun-brushed dial, with its in-house watch movement captured through the see-through sapphire crystal at the back of the case. This model is priced starting at $12,200 USD.

Prices for the Panerai Luminor Due 38mm Models

While the Panerai Luminor Due watches are known for their lighter and thinner casing, these models are still big chunks in terms of diameter. Downsizing the collection for a slimmer, lighter, and easier watch to slip on your wrist, the Panerai 38mm models, such the Panerai Luminor Due PAM0075, boast a 38mm polished steel casing in the signature Panerai shape of a cushion. And on its sun-brushed anthracite dial are luminous Arabic numerals and hour markers with a date display placed at 3 o’clock and a small second counter situated at 9 o’clock. Underneath it boasts a P.900 caliber that is equipped with a power reserve of up to 3 days. The watch is accented with a green calfskin strap and is priced at around $5,800 USD.

Another Panerai 38 mm model is the Panerai Luminor Due PAM00903, cased in polished steel. Like the previous model, its OP XXXIV caliber allows it to have 3 days of power reserve. It resembles PAM00741 in its ivory dial, accented with blue in its Arabic numerals and yellow for its markers. A date display is neatly placed at 3 o’clock and the small second counter at 9 o’clock for a perfect balance. The hands are also accented in blue and yellow in harmony with the indices. To complement the blue accents, this $6,200 USD model is dressed in a dark blue calf strap.

History Behind the Panerai Luminor Due Collection

The Panerai Luminor Due is considered a new chapter of history for Panerai. First released in 2016, the model follows through the look and design of the famous and classic Luminor 1950 that was first designed for the Italian Royal Navy. During that time, Panerai created several prototypes including the Panerai Radiomir watch, which features radium-based powder that gives luminosity to its dial. The luminescent and self-luminescent materials used back then were patented by Panerai in 1949 and were improved over a decade to low and harmless emission of hydrogen isotope. This new luminescent tritium-based substance took the name of Luminor and boasts the famous crown-protection bridge.

After several models continuously being evolved throughout the years, Panerai released the Luminor Due in 2016 as a mark of a new generation of watches highly inspired by the iconic 1950s watch. Today, the watches are redesigned and improved, carrying almost the same look but with a thinner and lighter casing, in-house automatic movements with a micro-rotor. These new watches, with their 30 m water resistance capability, are made to accommodate people who are looking for a dress watch to wear for all occasions.
