Montblanc Star Legacy: A Combination of Elegance & Innovation

The Montblanc Star Legacy collection finds its inspiration from the well-known Minerva watches. The collection is a combination of elegance and innovation, which makes it one-of-a-kind watches that are not only beautiful to look at, but also reliable, high-quality, and precise. This collection from Montblanc boasts a series of watches that have stunning designs, thanks to its star guilloché pattern and the captivating aventurine disc. Timepieces such as the Star Legacy Metamorphosis and Star Legacy Exo Tourbillon feature this disc giving it added depth and aesthetic. Add to that the Star Legacy Orbis Terrarum and again, the Star Legacy Metamorphosis, that have a  Northern Hemisphere map on their dials. How much is a Montblanc Star Legacy watch?

Prices for the Montblanc Star Legacy Small Second Models

The Montblanc Star Legacy Small Second is an automatic 32mm ladies’ watch with a stainless steel case. On its dial, the 3, 9, and 12 hour markers are written in Arabic numerals while the rest are marked with slim short lines. At 6 o’clock, there is a small seconds counter with a flower design in the middle. Inside the flower is a star guilloché pattern for added detail- this pattern can also be seen on the middle of the main dial. Around the second counter are 28 precious diamonds (~0.056 ct) that make the watch sparkle. As for the crown, it has a mother-of-pearl Montblanc logo. These watches have a 3 bar water resistance and a 42 hour power reserve. A sfumato alligator leather strap watch like Ref. MB118536 will cost $3,200 USD, a while stainless steel one like Ref. MB118535 would be $3,565 USD.

Prices for the Montblanc Star Legacy Automatic Chronographs

The Star Legacy Automatic Chronograph features Arabic numbers and three subdials on its 3, 6, and 9 o’clock marks. Just like any traditional chronograph watch, these three subdials are the 30-minute counter, the 12-hour counter, and the 60-seconds counter. Similar to the Star Legacy Small Second, the 6 o’clock subdial has a flower design with a star guilloché pattern. In addition, in the middle of 4 and 5 o’clock is a date display window in a slanted position. Being a chronograph watch, it becomes a mix of sporty and elegant yet still with a touch of vintage vibes. Ref. MB118514 has a 42mm case with a silvery-white dial and blue Sfumato alligator leather strap. It costs $4,400 USD.

Prices for the Montblanc Star Legacy Nicolas Rieussec Chronograph Watches

In honor of Nicholas Rieussec, a French watchmaker who invented the first inking chronograph in 1821, Montblanc released a watch called Montblanc Star Legacy Nicolas Rieussec Chronograph. It has a unique looking dial due to the off-centred hours and minutes which is mostly located at the top and the two subdials below it. These two subdials, which are the 30-minute counter and the 60-second counter, are in a horizontal alignment and do not have central hands. Instead, in the middle of these two is a double index that serves as the pointer for both of the subdials. Below them is a date display feature. To add, another interesting detail would be the day and night indication which serves as the 9 o’clock mark — the rest are in Arabic numerals. At the upper right is a “NICHOLAS RIEUSSEC” writing and opposite to it is the word “CHRONOGRAPH”. This 44.8mm stainless steel watch with a 3 bar water resistance and a 72 hour power reserve is priced at $9,258 USD.

Prices for the Montblanc Star Legacy Full Calendar Series

The Montblanc Star Legacy Full Calendar comprises a lot of functions in a single 42mm stainless steel timepiece. Right above the central hands are the day and month display windows and right below is the moonphase display. On the center of the dial is an exploding star guilloché pattern that has a ring with 31 digits which serves as the date. The pointer for this would be a red crescent that adds a pop of color along with the blue central hands. Outside this ring are the hour markers which could either be in Arabic or Roman numerals. It has a 3 bar (30m) water resistance and a 42 hour power reserve. To top it off is a blue Sfumato alligator leather strap. Both the Arabic and Roman numeral variants cost $4,800 USD.

Prices for the Montblanc Star Legacy Automatic Date Models

For a more reserved timepiece, the Montblanc Star Legacy Automatic Date has a clutter-free dial and a classic look. It simply has a date display feature located at 3 o’clock and a rhodium-coated luminescent Roman numerals and indexes. The timepiece is pleasing to the eyes because of the continuous circular figures. It creates a cohesive look that is neat, elegant, and attractive. Ref. MB126079 is 42mm and has blue hands that go well with the blue and gold colors of the moonphase display. It is priced at $4,300 USD.

Prices for the Star Legacy Orbis Terrarum Models

Constant travelers will love the Montblanc Star Legacy Orbis Terrarum. Inspired by the Latin word Orbis Terrarum meaning “globe”, “earth”, and “world”, it boasts 24 time zones in a single timepiece. You can easily set it due to the single pusher which is located at the left side of the case. The face of the timepiece mimics the Northern Hemisphere map and meridians in a 3-dimensional view. At the edge of this is a disc stating the 24 cities from all over the world. It will even let you know if it is day or night thanks to the rotating disc underneath that turns either light or dark blue. Aside from turning the name of the set city in red, to point to the set city and the owner’s local time zone, there is a red arrow at 12 o’clock. This 43mm stainless steel watch with a 5 bar water resistance and a 42-hour power reserve costs $7,100 USD.

Montblanc Star Legacy 2021 Models: What’s New?

The Star Legacy Metamorphosis Limited Edition 8 was first launched in 2010. This 2021, Montblanc released the fourth-generation of this extraordinary watch with an innovative design and intricate details. The most interesting aspect of this watch is the 50mm, 18K white gold sliding case. Its left side has a sliding mechanism that enables the timepiece to change faces. The normal look of the dial is that it has a visible balance wheel at 12 o’clock and a Northern Hemisphere globe that has an outer ring that features a 24-hour counter at 6 o’clock. When the sliding mechanism is enabled, it reveals a full Exo Tourbillon underneath the balance wheel and an incredible night sky along with a moonphase in place of the 24-hour outer ring of the globe. It truly is a spectacular sight especially since the globe, complete with continents and oceans, looks realistic against the aventurine disc. The globe is created with such detail considering it is hand-engraved and hand-painted. Another beautiful detail to this watch is the 18K white gold crown that has a mother-of-pearl Montblanc emblem. Fortunately, it does not stop there. Even the hour and minute hands are also made of 18K white gold. To top this off is a blue sfumato alligator strap with an 18K white gold triple folding clasp. Sad to say but this is only limited to 8 pieces and it is priced at a whopping $253,500 USD to $304,500 USD.

Another alluring timepiece is the Montblanc Star Legacy Suspended Exo Tourbillon Limited Edition 18. This stunning watch features its time display dial at 12 o’clock and an Exo Tourbillon underneath an oversized balance wheel at 6 o’clock. This balance wheel is placed 3.2mm above the dial for a dramatic effect that makes 6 o’clock the center of attention. Around the Exo Tourbillon is a small seconds counter. Speaking of the dial, this watch has an aesthetically pleasing aventurine disc making it look like you are staring at the night sky filled with stars. This 44.8mm watch has an 18K white gold, polished case and an 18Kt white gold leaf hour and minute-hands. Similar to the Star Legacy Metamorphosis, it also has a blue sfumato alligator-skin strap with an 18K white gold triple folding clasp. Unfortunately, this captivating timepiece is only limited to 18 pieces and is priced at $107,500 USD to $132,775 USD.

Because of this, it makes a good investment since you get to have a top-quality watch that is unique, luxurious, and stunning at the same time.

History Behind the Montblanc Star Legacy Collection

The Star Legacy collection from Montblanc is “Inspired by the extraordinary Minerva heritage with a classic finish of sophisticated design”. To give you a short background, Minerva was a well-known watch manufacturing company that was put up in 1858. It became recognized for its high-quality and precise calibres. In 2006, Richemont group, Switzerland-based luxury goods holding company, acquired Minerva and used the calibres for Montblanc chronograph watches such as the 1858 Chronograph.

Going back to the Star Legacy, this collection is inspired by Minerva’s Star Collection like the  1927 Gold Hunter Calibre 19 pocket watch. It has an elegant silhouette thanks to its round cases with curved sides. Along with that is the onion-shaped crown that bears the Montblanc logo. To make the watches more aesthetically pleasing, Montblanc incorporated the details such as the star guilloché pattern, “filet sauté” guilloché motif, aventurine disc, and a minute railway track. Just like the pocket watch, the timepieces have Arabic writings. However, models with Roman numerals are also available.
