Mido Multifort Watches: Inspired by the Sydney Harbour Bridge

The Mido Multifort has seven series under their wing: Multifort Chronometer, Multifort GMT, Multifort Power Reserve, Multifort Chronograph, Multifort Gent, Multifort Patrimony, and Multifort Escape. Each series has its unique charm with the majority of the models boasting a monochrome color palette accented with different gold metals and often painted with a hint of colors in the dial. Amidst its different styles and designs, the collection is highly inspired by the Sydney Harbour Bridge, evident in the Geneva stripes that are seen in the dials of most the models.

Beneath these dashing models are movements such as the Caliber 80 automatic movement of Mido, cased in either 42 mm or 44 mm casing. The series under Multifort boasts a variety of watch types from chronometers to GMTs and chronographs. Among the collection that will most definitely stand out for watch aficionados is the Multifort Chronograph that offers a sporty look equipped with three counters.

How much does a Mido Multifort watch cost?

The Mido Multifort offers a variety of styles and designs but one common denominator is the inspiration of its models, except Multifort Patrimony, to the Sydney Harbour Bridge reflected in the dial’s Geneva stripes. Apart from some models in Multifort Gent, the majority of these watches also boast an exposed back dial that shows its exquisite and complicated movements that power up these watches and water resistance of 100 m with a screwed crown.

Below are the Mido watch prices of the seven collections and their popular models.

Prices for the Mido Multifort Chronometer Watches

The Mido Multifort Chronometer collection has nine varieties of eye-catching models in different colored dials, and coated stainless steel casings. Mido Multifort Ref. M038.431.37.051.09, in particular, is a 42mm watch cased in stainless steel with black PVD coating and a sapphire crystal with double-sided anti-reflection treatment. The watch has a spacious dial that comes in black for this model and displays a day and date at 3 o’clock, finished off with the iconic Geneva stripes design. It also features a graduated bezel and a refined satin-finished index and hands. This $1,380 USD Multifort watch is also the first to use the Automatic Mido Caliber 80 COSC Si (base ETA C07.821) caliber that is equipped with up to 80 hours of power reserve, along with a silicon balance-spring, and a chronometer COSC.

Prices for the Mido Multifort GMT Models

The dual-timezone Mido Multifort GMT collection features three varieties with two models cased in stainless steel with PVD coating of black or rose gold and the other in simple stainless steel. The dial has a date function at 3 o’clock, the applied indexes, and an internal bezel that showcases a second timezone. The second timezone can be easily adjusted via the crown, allowing for easy checking of your home country’s time against the local time during traveling.  Protecting the entire dial is a sapphire crystal with double-sided anti-reflection treatment. For those who prefer a sleek and simple version, the $1,190 USD Mido Multifort GMT Ref. M038.429.36.051.00 comes in a black dial with white and silver accents plus a hint of orange in the bezel and the third hand.

Prices for the Mido Multifort Power Reserve Watches

Like the Mido Multifort GMT collection, the Multifort Power Reserve also has three varieties all with the 42 mm cases made of either stainless steel or stainless steel with anthracite or black PVD coating. Mido Multifort Power Reserve Ref. M038.424.33.061.00 in particular is cased in stainless steel with anthracite PVD coating which perfectly contrasts the green Super-LumiNova in the hands and indices. It also has a power reserve indicator located at 9 o’clock that has up to 80 hours of power reserve. Across the power reserve, on the right is a date display at 3 o’clock, all sitting on top of the geneva stripes background and enclosed in a domed sapphire crystal that gives a clear finish because of its anti-reflective treatment. This stainless steel iteration costs around $1,120 USD.

Prices for the Mido Multifort Chronograph Models

The Mido Multifort Chronograph collection has seven varieties to choose from, all in 44mm casing size also made from stainless steel with PVD coating. The steel cases are well complemented by either leather or stainless steel watch straps and are equipped with date, day, chronograph, and small second functions with almost all models having three subdials except for the Mido Multifort Chronograph Adventure. This bicompax model boasts stainless steel with anthracite PVD coating for its watch case and a gunmetal colored dial. Peppered with earth tone accents on its hands and indices, and secured with a brown embossed cow leather strap, the watch strikes a perfect balance between vintage flair and sleek modernity. You can get a Mido Multifort Chronograph for $1,299 USD.

Prices for the Mido Multifort Gent Series

At a glance, the Mido Multifort Gent may appear similar to the rest having a simple and minimalist style, but minor aspects make this collection a completely different watch from the rest. Multifort Gent has nine varieties of models under their wing boasting a 42 mm size casing in plain stainless steel or stainless steel with black or rose gold PVD coating. This collection has the simplest design, with three-hand dials that display a day date window at the 3 o’clock position. Ticking inside is an Automatic Mido Caliber 80 (base ETA C07.621) with a power reserve of up to 80 hours. The dial varies from silver, black, anthracite, or gunmetal colors with applied indexes or Arabic numerals while the straps are either stainless steel or leather. The Ref. M005.430.37.051.80 model that comes in a black and orange contrasting look is priced at $1,030 USD.

Prices for the Mido Multifort Patrimony Watches

Among all the collections under the Multifort, the Mido Patrimony is the only one that does not boast a Geneva strips dial. Instead, it is sunray brushed and gradient smooth. One of the most popular models, for example, is the M040.427.36.042.00, a Multifort Patrimony Chronograph that pays homage to the brand’s oldest chronograph, the Multichrono from 1937.

The 42mm watch houses two counters and a date window at 6 o’clock. Giving an interesting mix of vintage and modern style, the watch boasts a domed bicompax dial and tachymeter scale at the edge. Adding to its retro look are its ultra-thin and stainless steel PVD rose gold coated bezel and large pushers. A contemporary touch is added in its deep blue dial display shielded with a box sapphire crystal. Within the dial lies an automatic Mido Caliber 60 (base ETA A05.H31) that has up to 60 hours of power reserve. This 50 m water resistant model is priced at $2,390 USD.

Prices for the Mido Multifort Escape Models

Last but not least on the collection, is the Multifort Escape, boasting a robust 44 mm stainless steel watch. One of the most iconic models under this collection is the special edition Multifort Escape Horween Special Edition that celebrates the bond between Mido’s Swiss watchmaking and the renowned Horween leather company. This model, in particular, evokes a vintage vibe with its dark dial with light tan accents encased in a sandblasted black PVD treated stainless steel casing.  On the dial are wide Arabic numerals, a small date window, and an outer minutes track. The watch is finished off with a beige embossed cow leather strap and is priced at $1,090 USD.

History Behind the Mido Multifort Collection

Mido was first established in 1918 by Mr. Georges Schaeren, an ingenious Swiss watchmaker who founded MIDO G. Schaeren & Co. Mido ventured into automotive watch designs in the 1920s and its continued success went through the 1930s, inventing the cork-crown sealing system and introducing the Multifort line that made history as one of the first antimagnetic watches with a self-winding movement and built-in water- and shock-resistance. In 1935, the Mido Multifort collection introduced the Mido Multifort Automatic that boasts features such as anti-magnetic, waterproof, and shock resistance and has become one of the first to carry these features.

Since then, the Multifort has greatly evolved into several varieties from chronometers, GMT, to chronograph watches all boasting a sporty monochromatic look, often embellished with a dash of blue or orange in its dials and a hint of rose gold or other metals in its casing. The watches are either in 42 mm or 44 mm stainless steel PVD-coated casing with some models highlighting the famous Geneva stripes in its dial design.
