Chopard Happy Diamonds: A Girl’s Best Friend

Diamonds are a girl’s best friend, and the Chopard Happy Diamonds is the perfect example of this. Introduced in 1976, the Chopard ladies' watch collection is a hybrid of the brand’s jewelry and watchmaking prowess. The collection was said to have been inspired by the waterfalls at the Black Forest and how its droplets glisten in the sunshine. Ronald Kurowski, a designer for Chopard, then took this and designed what would now be known as the iconic Happy Diamonds watch.

Unlike the minimal yet elegant Chopard Classic watches, the Happy Diamonds watches are decked with sparkling diamonds, and in other models, colorful stones such as sapphires and rubies. They also come in different sizes, perfect for a dress watch that is sure to turn heads.

How much does a Chopard Happy Diamonds watch cost?

Depending on the model, metals, and features, a Chopard watch under the Happy Diamonds collection can cost $4,000 USD to $59,000 USD. The Chopard Happy Diamonds Icons 209415-5002 is a great introductory watch in the collection, retailing at $7,619 USD. It features a green textured mother-of-pearl dial that goes well with the matching alligator leather strap. However, the highlight is its five dancing diamonds around the outer frame. Another simpler design is the Chopard Happy Diamonds Icons 209426-5201, with a rose gold case embedded with diamonds in addition to the seven dancing diamonds. This Chopard ladies’ watch costs about $18,399 USD.

Chopard Happy Diamonds watches also come in different case shapes, and the Chopard Happy Diamonds Icons 204305-5301 is a perfect example of this. Priced at $7,499 USD, the watch has an oval-shaped case, unlike the traditional round cases, as well as five dancing diamonds and a mother-of-pearl guilloché dial. In addition, the Chopard Happy Diamonds Icons 204292-1301 is another oval-shaped watch with diamonds embedded on its bezel and 5 dancing diamonds. It is priced at $17,600 USD.

Like most watches, they get more expensive the more complications and precious stones are added. While the Happy Diamonds collection lacks complications like the tourbillon or a perpetual calendar, they make up for it by adding more stones to the watch. The Chopard Happy Diamonds Joaillerie 209430-1001, retailing at $59,800 USD, features 7.48ct white diamonds around its bezel and lugs, and seven dancing diamonds. Other Happy Diamonds watches also include gems like the Chopard Happy Diamonds Joaillerie 204445-1006 that has dancing rubies, or the Chopard Happy Diamonds Joaillerie 20A002-5901 which has colored sapphires around the bezel.

Needless to say, Chopard’s Happy Diamonds watches cater to different budgets. Whether you’re looking for a simple and affordable watch or something to splurge on, you’re guaranteed to find a Happy Diamonds watch for you.

Vintage Chopard Happy Diamonds Watch — Is it a good investment?

Shopping for luxury watches can be tricky. Unlike clothes, watches can be seen as a potential investment, and even an heirloom to be passed down. That being said, there’s a lot to consider before buying a timepiece. For those who aren’t sure what to look for, choosing classic designs is always a good way to start.

Vintage Happy Diamonds watches are always a good investment. The collection is considered to be one of Chopard’s best, winning the coveted Golden Rose at the Golden Rose of Baden-Baden event. Over time, its value also increases. In addition, a Happy Diamonds watch was also one of the most expensive watches sold at an auction. Said watch, sold at a staggering $1.67 million USD, is decked with several diamonds and has blue and pink marquise-cut diamonds near the lugs.

Chopard Happy Diamonds's History and Design Details

The history of the Chopard Happy Diamonds watch can be traced way back to the ‘70s when Ronald Kurowski, a set designer who also worked for the Swiss brand, was hiking through the Black Forest. On his trip, the sparkling droplets of water against the sunlight caught his attention and so he tried to translate this into a design for a wristwatch. It wasn’t until 1976 when Chopard unveiled this game-changing watch. The name, “Happy Diamonds” came from a comment from Karin Scheufele, who said that “diamonds are happiest when they are free!” upon seeing the movement of the diamonds on the watch.

Initially designed as a men’s watch, the Chopard watch features a square case with a plain dial, allowing the 30 dancing diamonds to stand out. The diamonds were set in a gold bezel with a beveled case to prevent the diamonds from scratching the dial or the sapphire glass. That way, the small gems can move in any direction and not damage the surface.

This unconventional yet successful design became an instant hit, winning the highest prize at the Golden Rose of Baden-Baden, considered as the Oscars of the jewelry industry. Eventually, Chopard would debut a ladies' watch under the Happy Diamonds collection. In that year, the Swiss luxury giant managed to sell more than 10,000 of these watches.

The Chopard Happy Diamonds watches would then flourish in the Quartz Crisis and would allow a new design: a rounded case with two rings where the diamonds can glide on the outer ring. From its launching in 1976 until 1996, Chopard produced more than 100,000 of these watches, creating different models and designs that revolve around the free-flowing movement of the diamonds.

The legacy of the Happy Diamonds watches would branch out into different collections thanks to Caroline Scheufele. In 1985, Chopard released the first Happy Diamonds jewelry line. Later on, in 1993, Chopard released its first ever Happy Sport watches.

Reasons to Buy a Chopard Happy Diamonds Watch

So what makes Chopard Happy Diamonds watches a must-buy for female watch enthusiasts? If you’re still doubtful about getting a new or vintage Happy Diamonds Chopard watch, here are a few reasons that could convince you into getting one of these bedazzled ladies’ wristwatches

1. Uncommon Design

What sets a Happy Diamonds watch from other dress watches is its unique dial. 2. Range of Sizes

The Chopard ladies’ watch offers different case sizes, all with different designs and materials. Watches come in a 26mm, 29mm, 30mm, 32mm, 35mm, 36mm, 37mm, and 38mm case, giving you plenty of options.

3. Precious Metals

Watches from the Happy Diamonds collection come in 18K white or rose gold cases. But despite only having two different kinds of metals used, the designs are timeless and elegant. Depending on the model, the rose or white gold case can be polished smooth or have diamonds set around it on both inner and outer frames.

4. Swiss Quartz Movement

Every Chopard watch under the Happy Diamonds collection operates under a precise Swiss quartz movement, guaranteeing its accurate timekeeping. Other collections from Chopard also use quartz movement, namely the Chopard Happy Sport and Chopard Imperiale watches.
