Jaguar Watches: Precise, Durable, and Fierce

Jaguar is a Swiss watchmaking company that has produced several watch collections reminiscent of luxury watches, all at affordable prices. Each collection boasts sophisticated designs that are comparable with timepieces from the other well-known watch brands, such as Rolex and Omega. Some may be turned off by this, but Jaguar watches have proven to be extremely well-crafted despite mostly flying under the radar. This is also one of the many reasons why Jaguar remains a relatively unpopular watch brand despite how impressive they truly are. Regardless of popularity, the Jaguar brand continues to be one of the many underrated watch brands out there that deliver remarkable timekeeping precision, while also emphasizing elegant designs. It may not be on par with some renowned dedicated watch brands, but Jaguar knows how to create affordable and highly accurate watches that are perfect for both beginners and enthusiasts.

How Much is a Jaguar Watch?

Jaguar watches have been known to be affordable timepieces that can be considered alternatives to more well-known luxury watch brands such as Rolex and Patek Philippe. Despite the presence of smartwatches in its catalog, the prices of each Jaguar watch does not exceed a thousand-dollar price point—except for the Jaguar Automatic collection. This makes it on par with the famous Japanese brand Casio, which is also known for its affordable smartwatches. Other than that, Jaguar has manufactured several watch collections that can be categorized into three types. These are the Men’s Collection, Women’s Collection, and the Connected Collection. These three each have several sub-collections, creating a more organized structure in segregating the watch designs. The Jaguar watches can range from elegant to sporty, depending on the model in question. The caliber movements used in each watch may vary and they are not quite on the same level as some dedicated watch brands. That said, Jaguar offers the perfect entry-level watch for those who are looking for an affordable piece with designs similar to those of a luxury watch.

Jaguar Men’s Watches

The Jaguar Men’s Collection is composed of a wide variety of sub-collections that offer elegance and utility no matter the design. Most of the Men’s collection watches have bulky sizes that range from 40mm to 45mm in diameter and provide durability with style. The Men’s collection currently has five existing sub-collections that vary in design and function, as listed below:

Jaguar Acamar Collection

  • This is a collection of 41mm to 43mm watches, many of which boast smooth chronograph dials and are equipped with the appropriate chronograph watch movements. Aside from the chronograph models, some Acamar watches also feature a small seconds sub-dial for a minimalistic approach. The Jaguar Acamar collection has a price range of $489 USD and lower.

Jaguar Automatic Collection

  • The Jaguar Automatic collection is composed of 43mm to 45mm watches that are equipped with the ETA 2824-2 automatic caliber movement. The Automatic collection currently has eight models that are based on two main designs. The most prominent one is the Jaguar Automatic J812/A. This model comes with only two variations, which differ in terms of the strap used: leather or rubber. The price for this particular model is $1,500 USD. The price leap from the Acamar to the Jaguar Automatic may be surprising at first, but the powerful automatic caliber movement justifies the pricing.

Jaguar Daily Class Collection

  • As the name suggests, the Jaguar Daily Class collection establishes a common ground with those who are looking for an everyday wristwatch. The watch designs used in the Daily Class collection feature simple chronographs that have balanced styles; not too sophisticated, while still exuding the right amounts of stylishness. The retail prices for the watches in the Jaguar Daily Class collection start at $500 USD.

Executive Collection

  • The Executive collection is one of Jaguar’s most stylish series of watches. Brandishing both gold and silver tones, the watches in the Executive collection provide a luxurious look from every angle. The Executive collection is home to 46 models that range between 43.5mm to 45.8mm in size. Despite the size difference, the dial of an Executive watch remains consistent across the collection, taking the form of a chronograph dial with varying patterns and colors. Fashionable, and boasting practical functionality, the price of an Executive watch can reach up to $929 USD, depending on the model.

Special Edition

  • The Special Edition watches of Jaguar offer flexibility and prioritize a diverse range of preferences rather than sticking to a single design. There are currently three main designs found in the Special Edition collection. The first one is the chronograph watch with a date aperture found in between 4 o’clock and 5 o’clock, such as the $929 USD Jaguar Special Edition Chronograph J853/4; the second is the chronograph watch with a date disc on the bottom right of the dial, such as the $789 USD Jaguar Special Edition Chronograph J691/2; and the last one has a small seconds sub-dial, a day-of-the-week indicator, and a date aperture on the top right of the dial. The different watch designs offer a smooth balance between luxury and simplicity without being too over the top. The prices for these watches range from $600 USD to $1,000 USD in retail.

These watch sub-collections feature a variety of watch movements. These include chronograph movements, automatic movements, quartz movements, and even simple Swiss movements. The simple Swiss movement is a locally-made watch movement that has all the basic functions necessary for a watch. It may not have the same extravagant properties as some other calibers, but it still gets the job done.

Jaguar Women’s Watches

The Women’s Watch collection provides a sophisticated design that steers away from the popular bulky size of other Jaguar watches. In this collection, there are two sub-collections, the Cosmopolitan and the default Women’s collection. Both of these collections lean towards elegance and class, with utility being the second priority. Indeed, the designs of the Women’s watch collection are undoubtedly luxurious due to their striking color schemes and the premium materials used. Unfortunately, these two sub-collections are not equipped with automatic movements, unlike the Men’s collection. This might seem like a major setback for the Women’s collection, but the precision of each Women’s watch undermines its lack of an automatic caliber.

The two sub-collections of the Women’s collection are as follows:

Cosmopolitan Collection

  • The Cosmopolitan Collection features 34.5mm watches that are made from steel zirconia, a metal closely related to titanium. With such petite profiles, the Cosmopolitan offers a sophisticated style that champions comfort and style unlike no other. With the use of exquisite colours such as yellow gold and rose gold, the Cosmopolitan collection exudes a refined aura that fits perfectly as dress watches or even as casual wear. The price range for the Cosmopolitan collection starts at $400 USD and can go as high as $500 USD.

Women’s Collection

  • The Women’s Collection offers two main models that cater to those who prefer either an elegant dress watch or a sporty chronograph that is perfect for everyday use. A quartz movement is used for these watches, making them a bit more affordable than the other Jaguar watch collections. The J890/1 is one of the chronographs included in the Women’s collection. Encased in a 38.5mm stainless steel case, this watch model offers a chic and sporty design that is perfect for daily activities. The other models, like the J871/3 model, prioritize elegant aesthetics rather than adding more watch complications. The 34mm stainless steel case comes in a variety of colours that complement the varying dials available. The gemstone markings, as well as the polished sunburst dial, also establishes a certain luxury reminiscent of more renowned watch brands. The prices for these watches range from $400 USD up to $500 USD.

Jaguar Connected

The Jaguar Connected collection is the brand’s newest addition to its series of collections. Instead of going for the usual watch movements like quartz or a simple Swiss caliber movement, Jaguar utilizes the innovative smartwatch blueprint. The designs of the Jaguar Connected watches have several similarities in common with the watches in the Men’s collection—specifically the Executive watches. The only difference is that the Connected series does not have a chronograph feature. Instead, it features counters that indicate the date, day-of-the-week, 24 hours, and a timer—all of which are jammed into two sub-dials. The biggest selling point of the Connected collection is its hybrid function which allows it to connect to a smartphone. This helps it synchronize with and automatically adjust the time, depending on the chosen timezone. In addition, the Jaguar Connected also comes with several handy functions that help the wearer perform certain actions such as the One-Touch Reject Call feature, silent alarm, navigational function, and many more. It is by far one of Jaguar’s most impressive lineups to date. The price of the Connected collection ranges between $450 USD and $600 USD. It is a very well-designed watch that mixes the refined style of Jaguar with the modern and sophisticated designs that are popular in the 21st century.

Milestones and Innovations

Jaguar has been around since 1938. Despite that, Jaguar’s popularity has been rather stagnant, as people are keener to buy from other more renowned brands. Plus, it cannot be denied that a lot of people are not even aware that Jaguar exists in the first place, with many people confusing this brand for the automotive company of the same name. This, however, has not discouraged Jaguar from pushing forward. Instead, Jaguar continues to introduce more watches that embody their ideals and vision, which is to create elegant watches that champion precision and style—regardless of their standing. Thus, the high-tech, classy Jaguar Connected collection was born. Keeping up with the times as well as horological innovations, Jaguar has created a smartwatch that makes its wearer’s life as comfortable as possible. It is an innovative timepiece that brings Jaguar back into the game.

History of Jaguar Watches

As mentioned before, Jaguar was established in 1939 by a Swiss watchmaker named Peter Haas. As someone who dreamt of creating a watch brand that prioritized precision and power, the name “Jaguar” came to Peter’s mind. A wild animal that is built for agility and raw strength, Peter chose the name Jaguar to establish how committed he is to creating a top-of-the-line timepiece. Jaguar is the first Swiss watch company that is not named after its founder. Unfortunately, Jaguar did not garner enough popularity to make it to the top and acquire a luxurious standing. For decades now, several watch brands have dominated in the market, leaving little space for new brands to enter the scene. This led Jaguar to remain quiet and be shrugged off by many people. In 1989, Jaguar was acquired by Festina, a watch company that was founded in 1902. Festina acquired several watchmaking brands under its name, and that included Jaguar. With that, Jaguar gained a new opportunity to rise and achieve newfound glory. This became the main reason why Jaguar is still up and running to this day.

Jaguar Watches: The Underrated Powerhouse of Luxury Swiss Watches

Jaguar may not have the same extravagance as the other popular brands, but that does not mean that its watches should be overlooked. With collections like the Executive, Cosmopolitan, and Connected, Jaguar surely knows how to create watches reminiscent of its vision as well as its established name. It is an underrated brand that deserves to be considered as either an entry-level watch or as a worthy addition to any watch enthusiast’s collection. The price of Jaguar’s watches pose no problems since they are affordable and secondhand markets would surely offer them at a lower price compared to retailers. Luxury or not, Jaguar is without a doubt, a great watchmaking brand whose passion and ideals are evident in their timepieces.
